Combat colds with these home remedies.
It’s still winter, which means that cold and flu season is not yet over. When you’re sick, you just want to feel better in a hurry. Although there is no one instant method for fighting the onset of a cold or the flu, there are some simple home remedies that help. Take a look at a few below.
Fill up on oatmeal. Whole grains, like oatmeal, contain selenium, zinc, and beta glucan to help support your immune system and fend off cold and flu infections.
Sip on hot tea and lemon. When you’re sick with a cold or the flu, drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated. Hot drinks will be less harsh on your sore throat and are much easier to digest than cold liquids. Black tea helps to soothe a sore throat and chase away the chills. Add a squeeze of lemon for added vitamin C!
Have a steam bath. Sit over a hot bowl of steaming water with a towel draped over your head. The warm steam will help to shrink mucous membranes in your nose and throat, encouraging the mucus to drain. For an added benefit, add in a couple of drops of lavender or eucalyptus oil.
Rest. We know it’s not a quick fix – but it does help! Staying warm, dry, and sleeping it off can help your body to fight off the cold or flu. Make sure you get plenty of rest while you are ill.
